Traumatic Brain Injury Assesment
Traumatic brain injury has become one of the most important topics of the rehabilitation area because of its increasing incidence and prevelance. It must be kept in mind that a patient with traumatic brain injury may have cognitive and psychosocial deficits in addition to the physical and motor deficits. For an adequate assessment and a right prediction about prognosis, the follow up and assessment must be started from the Emergency Service or Intensive Care period. First of all, Glascow Coma Scale has been used for the follow up and assessment of a patient with traumatic brain injury. As well as Galveston Orientation and Amnesia test for assessing posttraumatic amnesia and certain assessment tools for disability, handicap and impairment and radiological procedures are being used to evaluate these cases. According to the recent literature, estimating the patients’ motor, functional and cognitive abilities by considering the skills of daily living activities has been becoming prevelant because of more accurate and reliable results during following up.
