The central cord syndrome is the most common type of the incomplete traumatic cervical cord syndromes. First described by Schneider in 1954, it is characterized by disproportionately greater motor impairment in the upper than in the lower extremities, bladder dysfunction, and varying degrees of sensory loss below the level of lesion. It has generally good prognosis for neurological and functional recovery. In this article, a 64-year-old male patient, diagnosed as central cord syndrome because of spinal cord injury is presented and discussed in the light of the relevant literature.
