Hemiplejik Hastalarda Yaşın Fonksiyonel Rehabilitasyon Sonuçlarına Etkisi

This study was performed to investigate the influence of age on the functional outcomes of hemiplegia rehabilitation of the patients with first thromboembolic stroke. Eighty six patients were included in the study and were divided into two groups as Group 1 (patients aged >65 years, n=30) and Group 2 (patients aged <65 years, n=56). Functional independence measurement (FIM) and functional ambulating scale (FAS) were both used to determine the functional outcomes of rehabilitation. The FIM scores at admittance and discharge were found as 60.73±22.77 vs. 73.13±26.82 and 68.64±26.53 vs. 82.91±24.86 in Group 1 and 2, respectively and did not show any statistical difference (p>0.05). The FAS scores were also found to be similar at admittance and discharge in both groups (1.16±1.55 vs. 1.89±1.68 and 2.36±1.84 vs. 2.96±1.68 in Group 1 and 2 respectively, p>0.05). The gained functional scores during rehabilitation program was 13.27±9.8 vs. 12.68±10.63 for FIM and 1.20±1.2 vs. 1.19±1.27 for FAS in Group 1 and Group 2 respectively (p>0.05). There was also no significant correlation between the age and the gained FIM and FAS scores during rehabilitation (for FIM; r=0.117, p=0.28 and for FAS; r=0.043, p=0.69). In conclusion, our results indicate that the patients over 65 years had similar functional gains during rehabilitation when compared with patients under 65 years. So it can be concluded that age does not have an adverse effect on the functional outcomes of hemiplegia rehabilitation.
