Effects of Iontophoresis Method in Adhesive Capsu- litis Treatment In this study, CaCl2 ve NaCl iontophoresis theraphy methods were compared with the short wave diathermy (SWD) therapy and exercises to investigate whether it is an effective application in adhesive capsulitis treatment. The study was performed on 45 patients who suffered from adhesive capsulitis at the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Department of Hacettepe University. There were three groups, and each group was consisted of 15 patients. All patients were assessed for range of motions, and pain evaluations. We applied SWD therapy after applying CaCl2 iontophoresis to the first group, while we applied SWD after NaCl iontophoresis to the second group. In the third group, we used only SWD. Exercises were prescribed to all three groups after the electrotherapy procedures. Pain at rest and in range of motion capability were found to be better after the treatment in all three groups (p<0.05). However, both iontophoresis applications before SWD, were found to be more effective in reducing the pain and increasing the range of motions (p<0.05). We can conclude that in addition to the classical physiotherapy methods, the iontophoresis method is an effective treatment procedure in physiotherapy of adhesive capsulitis cases.
