Locomotor System Findings in Patients Receiving Hemodialysis 122 patients Receiving Hemodialysis Treatment at Turkish Kidney Foundation Hospital were included in this study in order to determine the prevalance of rheumatic syndromes and investigate the factors which can affect the prevalance of rheumatic syndromes like duration of hemodialysis treatment, age, sex and haemotologic parameters. After clinical, radiological and laboratory assesment; the findings were compared according to duration of hemodialysis treatment, age and sex. We found carpal tunnel syndrome in 29 (23.8 %) patients, spondylarthropaty in 14 (11.5 %), skeletal deformities in 29 (23.8 %), tenosynovitis in 6 (4.8 %), periarthritis in 10 (8.2%) and bone cysts in 26 (20.7 %) of them. When we compared groups according to duration of hemodialysis treatment; carpal tunnel syndrome, bone cysts and periarthritis were found more frequently in the patients receiving hemodialysis treatment for longer time and it was statistically significant. Bone mineral density was reduced in dialysis patients in both sexes in comparison with the healty subjects. There was significant correlation between bone mineral density and the mean serum ß2microglobulin, magnesium, creatinin and ferritin, alkaline phosphatase levels. Significant relationship was found among hemodialysis duration and osteoporosis. Depression was observed in 66.3 % of patients. Changes in the locomotor system in prolonged haemodialysis treatment influence negatively the patients quality of lives.
