Functional Hand Index which used evaluation of rhematoid diseases - Numerous functional tests of the hand are used in rheumatic diseases. They have generally been developed to assess the results of treatement. Most have not, however, been validated and not practical in clinical use... Also, these different tests do not measure the same parameters. Some of them assess two principal impairment of hand which are mobility and strenght Others evaluate incapacity by the different items of the activities of daily living. The study of the handicap linked to functional incapacity is much more difficult because of the individuals personel, professional and social needs. There is only one hand scale which may assess functional handicap and functional disability at the same time. The development and the validation of specific and practicla iindices of functional incapacity and funtcional handicap for each rheumatic disease is necessary in clinical medicine. With strict respect for the rules for developing an index, simple tools of evaluation must be developed that can be used in both scientific studies and clinical practice.
